Water Dialogues

Introduction

The 2024 Regional Water Dialogues, organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), will take place at the headquarters of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), San José, Costa Rica, in hybrid format ( in person and virtual), on March 11, 12 and 13. The event, which integrates a high-level ministerial space, as well as exchanges of technical experiences with a multi-stakeholder approach, is part of the regional process to promote good practices and promote the achievement of SDG 6 in the region.

Goals

Within the framework of the voluntary commitments of the 2023 Regional Water Action Agenda, the objectives of this event are: i) analyze the progress and challenges of achieving SDG 6, ii) highlight successful experiences and lessons learned for achievement of said objective.

Justification

ECLAC promotes spaces for dialogue and exchange within the framework of the Decade of Action for Water 2018-2028 and calls on the different actors of the countries of the region to share their progress in water matters, in order to promote innovations, mobilize cooperation and financing, in addition to replicating, scaling and providing concrete solutions to promote a sustainable and inclusive water transition.

REGIONAL WATER DIALOGUES SHOWED FIRM COMMITMENT OF LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN TO ADVANCE SOLUTIONS TO THE WATER CRISIS

San José, March 14, 2024 (IICA) - The Regional Water Dialogues in Latin America and the Caribbean closed with a renewed commitment of the region to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which promotes the safe provision of water and sanitation for the entire population, and were a space to show and discuss concrete solutions to the challenges posed by the context of climate change.

IN REGIONAL DIALOGUES, ECLAC AND IICA SHOW PROGRESS IN PUBLIC POLICIES TO GUARANTEE ACCESS TO WATER FOR VULNERABLE POPULATIONS IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

San José, March 13, 2024 (IICA) - Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean detailed the challenges they face in terms of availability and access to water in a context of climate crisis, and gave details of the most recent advances in policies public on this topic.

IN REGIONAL WATER DIALOGUES, COUNTRIES OF LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN REPORTED ON THEIR PROJECTS TO DEAL WITH THE WATER CRISIS

San José, March 12, 2024 (IICA) - In addition to producing food, agriculture can become a producer of water and several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean have already launched policies and projects in that regard, with the objective to contribute to alleviating the water crisis, said senior officials and representatives of international organizations gathered at the headquarters of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

THE REGIONAL WATER DIALOGUES OF LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN BEGAN AT IICA HEADQUARTERS WITH A STRONG CALL TO COMBAT GAPS IN ACCESS TO AN ESSENTIAL RESOURCE FOR LIFE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

San José, March 11, 2024 - (IICA) - The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) inaugurated the IV edition of the Regional Water Dialogues in Costa Rica in Latin America and the Caribbean with a strong call to reduce gaps in access to water and sanitation that harm vulnerable communities.

FOURTH EDITION OF THE REGIONAL WATER DIALOGUES WILL BE HELD IN COSTA RICA

Santiago and San José, March 6, 2024 (ECLAC-IICA) . With the participation of the Presidential Designate of Honduras, the Chancellor of Costa Rica, Ministers and Vice Ministers, and more than a hundred representatives from 18 countries in the region, from the public and private sectors, from international organizations, from development banks , academia and civil society, the fourth edition of the Regional Water Dialogues in Latin America and the Caribbean 2024 will begin, between March 11 and 13 in the capital of Costa Rica. Additionally, more than 1,000 people have already registered to follow the event remotely, from 30 countries in the region and the world.
