A hemispheric initiative to provide solutions and address the management of water resources for agriculture in the Americas.
The initiative
This Initiative proposes solutions with innovative approaches that respond to the diversity of situations, among others: the availability and quality of water, soils, the level of development of infrastructure for agriculture, exposure to droughts and floods, the use sustainable groundwater resources and the institutional capacity of the actors involved.
The success of the solutions will be based on good governance, financing and a favorable environment for water policies.
Innovative approach
Aim
Its objective is to consolidate the capacities and promote public-private strategic alliances of IICA member countries, to improve integrated and efficient management of the use of water for agriculture by supporting the ministries of agriculture and governing bodies.[1].
[1] It will be necessary to establish alliances and working relationships with institutions that are not under the leadership of the ministries of agriculture, which participate in the collection, storage and distribution of water.
