Subsurface drip irrigation

Subsurface irrigation, an agricultural technique, supplies water and nutrients in a localized manner underground, improving crop growth.

It is an irrigation technique that allows the supply of water and nutrients to the plant in a localized and subsurface manner, optimizing crop growth. The subterranean irrigation system is an alternative to increase water productivity in agriculture, minimizing surface evaporation and increasing the efficiency of water supply in the root zone. A correct way to apply it is by combining the technique with drip irrigation, developed to reduce direct evaporation from the soil and control the moisture content in the most active area of the crop. In this way, considerable savings in water for irrigation are obtained, an important aspect because the greatest limitation for agricultural production in arid areas is the availability of water resources. This practice makes possible the most efficient use of said resource, energy and fertilizers, positioning itself as a good alternative at an economic, agronomic and ecological level.
