SISSA (Drought Information System for Southern South America)

The Drought Information System for Southern South America (SISSA) uses data from the Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station Data (CHIRPS) product to estimate precipitation. CHIRPS is produced by the Climate Hazards Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara and the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Drought Information System for Southern South America (SISSA) produces precipitation estimates from CHIRPS data. These data are the original product from which the maps are made (for the initials of its name in English, Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station Data). CHIRPS data are produced by the Climate Hazards Center at the University of California at Santa Barbara and the United States Geological Survey. This section contains several maps and visualizations of the state of precipitation (totals and anomalies, percentiles and SPI index) for periods of 3, 6 and 12 months. Precipitation is obtained from the CHIRPS product that combines satellite estimates with in situ data. To view the different visualizations, select options in the interactive menu, such as making a comparison between periods, observing the situation of previous years or downloading maps already existing on the site.
