Environmental Restoration of Degraded Soils in Cuncumén, Chile
Desertification, understood as the persistent degradation of dryland ecosystems, affects the vegetation cover and soil biodiversity, causing a loss of productivity. This constant degradation is usually a direct consequence of both human action and climatic factors. In the case of the Cuncumén property, soils have been further deteriorated by the effects of drought in the central region in recent years, deforestation, and inappropriate land use due to grazing and agricultural management. In this context, the present work plan seeks to support soil restoration through techniques defined by the SIRD-S, complemented by contributions from collaborating agricultural institutions.
