Capacity Building in the Use of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Rural Communities in Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica and Guatemala
This initiative is a transfer project for renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies to be implemented in Costa Rica, Colombia, Bolivia and Guatemala. These renewable technologies allow the reduction of emissions of polluting gases into the environment, since they are derived from natural sources, hence their sustainability. In this way, added value is generated for the competitiveness of the agricultural sector in these countries and the development of capacities for the adequate management of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that are implemented at a community level.

Objective:
Support the objectives of reducing emissions and improving the competitiveness of the agricultural sector in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Colombia and Guatemala, through the implementation and development of management capacities for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects at the community level.

NbS application:
How has IICA integrated NBS into its projects?
Efficient use of natural resources, in this case water and sunlight, has significantly increased vegetable productivity for the AIPAC producer association in Bolivia and AMUPROCAJ in Guatemala.
What lessons learned can you share about collaborating with farmers to implement NBS?
Increased productivity, yields, and income for rural communities. Better use of energy-efficient technologies. Potential of solar energy and water reservoirs for improved productivity.
What examples of NBS innovation can you share from your experience at IICA?
Incorporation of a solar pumping system into the association's productive activities.
Geomembrane lining of the reservoir to prevent water loss.
How are you promoting NBS education and training among farmers?
All transfer processes included training workshops on the operation, maintenance, and repair of the systems, as well as training for technicians in the development of such projects.
