Support for the National Irrigation and Drainage Plan in Ecuador

The Water Secretariat, within the framework of its powers and responsibilities, updated the National Irrigation and Drainage Plan (PNRD) for the period 2019-2027, which includes the implementation of specific studies that provide further information on the infrastructure, socio-organizational, productive and environmental axes. The progressive implementation of the PNRD requires specialized technical actions, which is why a technical cooperation process was managed with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which was approved with code EC-T 1388 and whose objective is: “To increase the productivity of small and medium-sized farmers, reduce poverty and reduce levels of inequality in access to irrigation water, as well as generate sustainable use of water resources as a mechanism for adaptation to climate change.” It should be noted that the executor of the technical cooperation process will be the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

Objective:

Support the Water Secretariat of the Republic of Ecuador to develop specific studies contemplated in the National Irrigation and Drainage Plan 2019 - 2027 (PNRD), which seeks to increase the productivity of small and medium-sized farmers, reduce poverty and reduce levels of inequality in access to irrigation water, as well as generate sustainable use of water resources as a mechanism for adaptation to climate change.
