Innovation in the Rice Chain
The NAMA rice project in Panama, approved by IDB-LAB and IICA, seeks to implement a pilot project with 100 producers to reduce production costs, increase income and decrease greenhouse gases through carbon credits. With the collaboration of 14 public and private institutions, it will directly benefit 20 producer families and 100 actors related to the rice chain.

Main theme:
Promote the innovation model to increase the profitability of producers from 6 cents to 35 cents per balboa invested. This will be achieved by reducing production costs, through a rainfed rice field school to implement the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) for rice. In addition, digital platforms will be used for traceability, satellite monitoring and the promotion of carbon credits, equivalent to 1,000 tons of carbon. The project will benefit 20 rice-producing families and, indirectly, 100 other actors linked to the rice chain, with an emphasis on young people and women.
