The Meeting the 2020 Challenge in the Bahamas (2020 Challenge Project) is an initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Its long-term strategic objectives are to enhance the sustainability of protected areas, mitigate threats to biodiversity, and integrate biodiversity conservation and sustainable use into productive landscapes and seascapes. This initiative was designed through a site selection process that included consultation with key stakeholders and the review of national reports. Five sites have been selected to achieve the project's intended outcomes.

Objective:
Develop strategies for the protection of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) that minimize impacts on agriculture, flora and fauna, and pollution of the productive landscapes and ecosystems of these areas, through innovative methodologies and technological management that can provide sustainable development, including community participation to strengthen the social stakeholders involved in this project.
