Productivity zones

It is a precision agriculture tool that automatically delineates zones based on productivity to optimize farm management. Using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and the MSAVI2 index, it identifies areas with similar characteristics and generates clear productivity-level maps, enabling more efficient allocation of inputs such as fertilizers and irrigation.

It is a precision agriculture tool that automatically delineates zones based on their productivity, defining management units to optimize agricultural performance. By processing Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and applying the MSAVI2 vegetation index, the application identifies areas with similar characteristics, enabling precise allocation of resources such as fertilizers and irrigation. The system uses a powerful Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm to classify areas into different productivity levels, from low to high. Farmers receive a clear, color-coded map of their fields that transforms complex satellite data into an intuitive and practical plan for site-specific management.

Sector:

Reduces fertilizer and water pollution: By dividing fields into productivity-based zones, it enables precise application of inputs such as fertilizers and water (precision agriculture). This prevents over-application, significantly reducing chemical runoff and conserving water.

Reduces greenhouse gas emissions: More efficient fertilizer use means less waste, which in turn lowers nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions—a potent greenhouse gas produced by excess nitrogen in soils.

Prevents soil degradation: Allows farmers to match cropping intensity to the land’s actual capacity, avoiding depletion of less productive areas and protecting soil from erosion.

Improves resource efficiency at scale: The application uses advanced satellite data and clustering techniques to automate zone creation, making highly efficient and sustainable farming practices more accessible and easier to implement.
